EDUCATION:
1979-84 Hochschule Für Music Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany, Masters degree in classical piano, composition.
 
PERFORMANCES 1999 His band, Foreign Affair, featuring Richard Bona, Mark Whitfield and Jeremy Gaddie perform live at several concerts, open air festivals and Jazz clubs in Hector's native Colombia. In New York's premier Jazz club Birdland one of the evenings in a 4 day engagement of Foreign Affair is recorded live for GMN. BET invites Foreign Affair to perform at two open air Jazz Festivals in NYC which are broadcasted on that Jazz TV channel. Hector performs across the US with the bands of Gato Barbieri, Steve Turre and up- and-coming Gabriela Anders. 1998 Foreign Affair, featuring Richard Bona, Vinny Valentino and Mark Walker performs at the Brooklyn Academy of Music along with the ensembles of Titro Puente and Don Byron in Byron"s Jazz: The next Wave. 1997-98 Assisted in the production of Paul Simon's "The Capeman". 1997 -Perforrms with Max Roach in his Project America. Numerous appearances with his Foreign Affair trio in festivals in New York city (i.e.,Texaco New York Jazz Festival, CMJ etc), Europe (i.e., Cully-Lavaux Jazz Fesival) and Colombia, South America (i.e., Jazz al Parque, Festival de Jazz del Teatro Libre). Three week European tour with Don Byron's "Music for Six Musicians".
1989-96 Seven years touring the US, Europe, South America, Japan and Israel with Ray Barretto's Jazz and Salsa bands. Performed with Mongo Santamaría, Claudio Roditi, Roland Vazquez, and all major latin jazz acts, both in New York's best Jazz clubs as well as in all major festivals in U.S. cities and abroad.
1989 European tour leading seven piece My Latin New York band.
1987-88 One year residency in Brazil, playing with local bands in clubs and TV shows.
1977-87 Performed with U.S.-based salsa singers such as Celia Cruz, Ismael Miranda, etc., with top European bands, while studying in Germany. Numerous classical recitals as soloist in Germany, Italy and Colombia and with composers suchs as Mikis Theodorakis.

Recording Experience:
1998 PAUL SIMON; recorded and co-produced several tracks in "The Capeman"'s cast-album.-1995-97 HECTOR MARTIGNON New York, NY Band leader; two solo CDs with trio and guests for Candid Records. 1996 DESCARGA BORIQUA New York, NY guest artist; featured artist in puerto-rican all- star band's lact CD.--
1990-96 RAY BARRETTO New York, NY Pianist, composer, arranger; penned large part of compositions and arrangements in last five records with Barretto's Latin Jazz and Salsa bands; plays piano and keyboards.
1994-96 ANG LEE, film director,KATHLEEN McAULEY, film producer; New York, NY
Pianist, arranger;"Eat, drink, man, woman"- performed all piano parts, arranged and conducted 8 minutes long segment for Academy Award nominated feature movie's soundtrack.
Composer,"Dusk before Dawn"- Composed and produced soundtrack for 30 min.- short. --
1993-96 ANGELO Y SU TUMBAO, IVAN Y LUCIA, GABRIELA New York, NY Producer, composer, arranger, pianist; charged with production of cuban singer's salsa record; composed title song. Produced southamerican Pop duett's first CD for Poygram, as well as argentinian singer's second and third CDs.Produced and recorded numerous jingles.
1988 SARA JANE Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Pianist; featured artist in brazilian singer's record.-1977-87 A. SANDOVAL,T. GÜINES,CONEXION LATINA Europe Pianist, arranger, composer; several records with world-famous musicians such as Arturo Sandoval and conga legend Tata Güines and best European bands. Recorded with master-drummer Kofi Misizo from Ghana.--
1977 MIKIS TEODORAKIS Stuttgart, Germany; Pianist; first recording; Greek composer's epic "Canto General"; recorded live with 120 musicians and singers.
